Are you up to date with your cervical screening? - infographic

Cervical screening – Cervical screening nurse available

WHAT IS CERVICAL SCREENING? - Are you up-to-date with your cervical screening? We have a registered cervical screening nurse who can perform this procedure for you

HEALTH CHECK - Previously called the smear test, this screening checks the health of your cervix. (The Cervix is the opening to your womb from your vagina)

PREVENTION - Cervical Screening is one of the best ways to protect yourself from cervical cancer. Cervical screening is not a test for cancer, it’s a test to help prevent cancer.
We’re testing for a virus called high risk human papilloma virus (HPV) - Finding high risk HPV early means you can be monitored for abnormal cell changes which if found can be treated so they do not get a chance to turn into cervical cancer.

THE TEST - You will attend an appointment with the GP to organise the pathology then Saili our registered cervical screening nurse will perform the procedure. The actual test only takes 1-2 minutes. The whole appointment usually takes about 10 minutes.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Finding breast cancer early provides the best chance of surviving the disease. Remember you don’t need to be an expert or use a special technique to check your breasts.
Changes to look for include:
  • a new lump or lumpiness, especially if it's only in one breast
  • a change in the size or shape of your breast
  • a change to the nipple, such as crusting, ulcer, redness or inversion
  • a nipple discharge that occurs without squeezing
  • a change in the skin of your breast such as redness or dimpling
  • an unusual pain that doesn't go away.
  • Most changes aren’t due to breast cancer but it’s important to see your doctor without delay if you notice any of these changes.
